Suspect Held In Fatal Stabbing Of El Monte Man

EL MONTE (CBSLA.com)  —   Officials  in El Monte have arrested a 20-year-old man as the suspect in a fatal stabbing Tuesday.

The stabbing occurred around 8:40 p.m. in the 3400 block of Belcroft Avenue.

David Garcia of El Monte has been identified as the suspect and taken into custody.

Officials did not say what the relationship between Garcia and the victim was saying it was still under investigation.

The Los Angeles Sheriff's Department assisted El Monte Police with the investigation.

Detectives did say the victim was confronted by the suspect and a minor verbal altercation took place just before the stabbing. Garcia then allegedly stabbed the victim before fleeing.

The victim was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead. The deceased is not being named until his next of kin can be notified, officials said.

Garcia was booked at El Monte Police Station and will be held in lieu of a $1 million bail..
