Stolen Vehicle Suspect Barricaded Inside Whittier Home Safely Surrenders

WHITTIER (CBSLA.com) — Authorities were on the scene of a barricade situation Friday involving a stolen vehicle suspect.

According to the Pico Rivera Sheriff's Department, deputies came across a stolen vehicle after the male suspect crashed the car on Rooks Road and Kella Avenue.

The suspect then fled from the scene, and broke into an unoccupied home in the 2300 block of Pearson Avenue at Kathleen Street, and barricaded himself inside, authorities said.

Deputies said they have set up a containment area, and have begun evacuating residents in the neighborhood.

K-9 units were called to the scene.

Shortly after 9:00 a.m., the suspect safely surrendered to deputies outside, and was subsequently taken into custody.

No injuries were reported.
