Man Arrested In Connection With 2004 Murder Of Rialto Man

RIALTO (CBSLA.com) — A 25-year-old man remained in custody Thursday on suspicion of murdering a Rialto man.

According to the Rialto Police Department, Derione Johnson of Rialto was arrested in Pomona on Tuesday in the 2004 murder of Shaylen Martin, 23.

On Aug. 3, 2004, Martin was fatally shot in the head while he stood on a sidewalk in the 200 block of East Jackson Street.

Police explained the case went unsolved for nearly 11 years until detectives relaunched an investigation.

According to officials, uncovered evidence led to Johnson's arrest. He was 15 when the murder took place.

Johnson is being held at the West Valley Detention Center, awaiting court proceedings.
