Suspect Arrested In Attempted Sexual Assault In Newhall

NEWHALL (CBSLA.com) — A 29-year-old man suspected of trying to sexually assault a woman two weeks ago in her Newhall apartment was in custody Saturday, authorities said.

Richard Sanchez was wanted on attempted sexual assault and burglary charges from that incident, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Shirley Miller.

The attack was interrupted by the victim's son, according to Miller.

A deputy spotted Sanchez late Friday night before he fled to an unknown location.

A containment was set up and Sanchez was taken into custody with assistance from a K-9 unit and an air unit, Miller said.
