Suspect Arrested Following Officer-Involved Shooting In Riverside

RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com) — An 18-year-old man remained in custody Monday after leading officers on a foot chase in Riverside.

Shortly after 5 p.m. on Sunday, two officers attempted to contact an adult man, who was later identified as Isaac Sanchez, in the 2100 block of 9th Street.

According to the Riverside Police Department, a foot chase ensued after Sanchez began to run away from officers.

During the chase, he produced a handgun and pointed it at the officers. An officer-involved shooting subsequently occurred.

Police said Sanchez discarded his firearm and continued to run, but was taken into custody a short distance away.

He has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon, prohibited person in possession of a firearm, person prohibited by injunction to possess a firearm, gang member in possession of a firearm, violation of gang injunction, resisting arrest and violation of probation.

No injuries were reported.

The weapon was recovered at the scene.
