Suspect Accused Of Dousing Sleeping Girlfriend With Gasoline, Lighting Her On Fire

SAN BERNARDINO (CBSLA.com) — A man accused of setting his girlfriend on fire while she was asleep in her San Bernardino home has been arrested, police said Thursday.

The attack reportedly occurred around 7:15 a.m. at a residence on Genevieve Street near 18th Street, according to San Bernardino Police Lt. Rich Lawhead.

The suspect apparently entered the home, doused the woman with gasoline and set her on fire, Lawhead said.

Fire crews responded to the scene and put out the flames, according to police. The suspect was found at the residence, said Lawhead.

Police did not immediately identify the suspect.

The victim suffered minor injures and was rushed to a hospital, Lawhead said.

Investigators say the couple had broken up and believe the boyfriend suspected the victim was cheating on him, according to reports.
