Suit Alleges That Glendale Adventist Engaged In Patient-Dumping
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles is suing a hospital it claims dumped homeless patients on skid row.
The Los Angeles Times says the city attorney sued Glendale Adventist Medical Center on Wednesday, alleging that over the past four years it transported mentally ill and homeless patients without their consent to the downtown LA area that is known for poverty and crime.
In an email to the Times on Friday, spokeswoman Alicia Gonzalez said officials at the Glendale hospital strongly disagree with the allegations but are working with the city attorney to resolve the matter.
City attorney spokeswoman Rob Wilcox says settlement negotiations are underway.
Earlier this year, the city reached six-figure settlements of patient-dumping claims with Pacifica Hospital of the Valley in Sun Valley and Montebello-based Beverly Community Hospital.
