Students Return To South LA High School Damaged In July Fire

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Some students of a South Los Angeles high school damaged in a fire returned to class Monday after summer break.

Administrators pushed the start date back two weeks for Animo South Los Angeles, 11130 S. Western Avenue, to Aug. 25 after a fire damaged a portion of the campus on July 22.

The fire caused a partial roof collapse and destroyed several buildings on campus, including 14 classrooms.

Ninth and tenth grade students will return to the ASLA campus, while eleventh and twelfth graders will attend class at a local middle school until December.

A $500,000 fundraising campaign has been launched to help pay for damages, officials said.
