Stubborn Pelican Forces CHP To Issue SigAlert In Culver City

CULVER CITY (CBSLA,com) — Traffic in the Southland is for the birds, but a pelican took it a little too far Saturday afternoon.

The stubborn pelican had landed on the ramp that takes the 90 Freeway onto the northbound 405, and would not leave, according to City News Service, so California Highway Patrol officers blocked both lanes and a SigAlert was issued.

Officers closed the ramp at 1:27 p.m., and an officer radioed that the pelican had been "cornered." But after a half hour, the bird was still on the ramp and the SigAlert was issued.

The bird was eventually enticed off the ramp, and traffic resumed about 2:15 p.m.
