Stubborn Blaze At Recycling Plant In Pomona Challenges Firefighters

POMONA (CBSLA.com) — A fire at a recycling plant in Pomona Sunday evening intensified before firefighters could get the upper hand.

Officials said the plant's yard was filled with newspaper and wooden pallets adding fuel to the stubborn blaze.

The fire was contained to the outside yard in the 1400 block of W. Second Street.

Authorities said no structures were immediately threatened.

Stu Mundel, reporting in Sky9, said "Firefighters have been out there putting a lot of water on this fire getting a good handle on it."

At least one firefighter reportedly suffered smoke inhalation.

Firefighters were dispatched to the scene just after 7:30 p.m. By 9:15 p.m., flames could still be seen several blocks away.

No evacuations have been reported.
