Strong Winds Topple Trees, Interrupt Power In West LA, Venice

WEST LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Gusty winds wreaked havoc Thursday in West Los Angeles and Venice, toppling trees and causing blackouts.

A tree toppled onto vehicles on Pico Boulevard near Sherbourne Drive, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Upon their arrival, authorities located the tree on top of several vehicles.

The windows of the vehicles were broken as a result of the crash.

No injuries were reported.

About six miles west, power was interrupted to 970 customers in the area of Redwood Avenue and Marina Pointe Drive at about 4:20 a.m, according to Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. It was not immediately known what caused the outage, and crews were sent out to restore power.
