WATCH: Strange Chase Ends With Use Of Taser After Driver Avoids 2 Pit Maneuvers
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A woman suspected of driving a stolen vehicle avoided two pit maneuvers while leading the CHP on a strange chase Monday night through the Compton area before being shot with a taser and arrested.
The chase started around 7:30 p.m. and led officers on slow and high speeds. Several times the driver obeyed stop signs and other traffic rules. She also played cat and mouse with CHP units by going around in circles and then would speed off. At one point the driver of the Silver Nissan Rogue appeared to be giving up when he turned into the entrance of an apartment complex. He then backed out and sped off again.
As the pursuit wore on, the CHP executed a perfect pit maneuver but the driver was able to weave through officers' vehicles going the wrong direction. It was then that a second pit maneuver minutes later seemed it would end the chase. However, after being spun out the driver regained control and the chase was on again.
The driver became increasingly erratic, speeding up, and turning off her lights. She finally wound her way into a neighborhood where she got out of her SUV and thought she could fool the police who were pursuing her by hiding behind a building. She was taken down by taser and arrested around 8:30 p.m.
