State Controller To Investigate Beaumont City Finances

BEAUMONT (AP) — The state controller says her office will investigate the finances of the city of Beaumont in Riverside County.

Controller Betty Yee said Tuesday that the probe will seek to resolve significant differences between the city's expenditures and its audited financial statements.

Yee says, for example, that in the 2012-13 fiscal year, Beaumont's reported expenditures were $50 million less than stated.

Last month the FBI served search warrants on Beaumont City Hall, the city manager's house and Urban Logic Consultants, a firm that has a long relationship with the city.

The firm once employed all of the top managers in the city, and has provided management services to Beaumont for 20 years.
