'Star Wars' Fans Camp Out In Hollywood 10 Days Ahead Of Film's Release

HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" opens in theaters next Friday, but that's not stopping fans from lining up more than a week in advance.

Andrew Porter and Caroline Ritter, who are from Australia, traveled a great distance to sit outside the TCL Chinese Theatre and plan to get married on opening day.

The couple is among about 100 people who have camped out for the first showing the film, which is set to open next Friday.

The theater famously screened the first "Star Wars" movie in 1977, where R2-D2 and C-3PO have left their marks.

"It's like Woodstock, but it's for nerds," said Erik Murillo, a "Star Wars" fan.

The organizers of the camp-out that started this weekend have planned a marathon screening of the franchise in the theater's courtyard in the order the films were released.

Everyone in line technically has a ticket, but those who stay longer can get better seats.

It has been a decade since the last "Star Wars" film hit theaters.
