Stabbing Death Investigation Underway In Riverside

RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com) — Homicide detectives investigated the circumstances surrounding the death of a man on Saturday whose body was found next to railroad tracks in Riverside.

According to the Riverside Police Department, officers were sent around 8:16 p.m. Friday to the area of Pachappa Drive overpass and Olivewood Avenue for report of a man down near the railroad tracks.

When the arrived on scene, officials pronounced the victim -- who appeared to have been stabbed -- dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld pending family notification.

Detectives explained the victim was a transient who frequented the area, and knew the suspect prior to the incident.

A preliminary investigation revealed the victim walked with the suspect near the railroad tracks when the suspect suddenly stabbed him in the chest. The suspect then proceeded to walk off the tracks, and headed up onto Olivewood Avenue.

At this time, the suspect remains at large, and no description has been provided.
