STUDIO CITY (CBSLA.com) — Areva Martin and Cleon Joseph of the Special Needs Network visited KCAL9 Tuesday to talk about a free 10-week training and nutrition program for Los Angeles residents.

The course will help participants prepare for the Hollywood Half Marathon, which is the organization's kickoff event for Autism Awareness Month.

"South LA Gets Fit" is designed to "improve cardiovascular conditioning, body mass index, and combat chronic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension that are prevalent in both African American and Latino communities," according to SNN.

The program launches Jan. 27 and runs through the end of March. The marathon will be held April 5.
