Shoppers Flock To Stores For Super Saturday Sales
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) – Retailers across the Southland are offering deals for last-minute shoppers as Christmas quickly approaches.
The countdown to Christmas was in full swing on Super Saturday as bargain hunters searched for deep discounts.
Procrastinators got lucky as stores laid out the red carpet to attract last-minute shoppers.
Reporter: "Are you starting fresh today?"
"Today is the first day, actually," Northridge resident Jay Campisi said.
Malls were crowded as consumers took advantage of extended store hours and big sales.
Retailers like Kohl's in Northridge were packed with sale signs on virtually every display. Kohl's is open 24 hours a day until 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
Many other stores have extended hours and major sales to attract consumers looking for their final gifts – or for those just getting started.
Retailers expect Saturday will be the busiest shopping day of the year, possibly surpassing Black Friday.
According to a survey from the National Retail Federation, about 134 million people will take advantage of the day's perks.
A perk of the holidays is also the season of giving. Greene said she was filling her cart to make the holidays special for a family in need.
"[She's] a mom, a single mom, with two children. It's a tough time, and the 4th grader said, 'We don't even have a home, how will Santa know where to come?' It's someone through my daughter, so my daughter said, 'We'll email Santa and let him know you're gonna be at our house.'"
