Southern Californians Flock To East LA Restaurant For Tamales

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — In East Los Angeles, residents know it's Christmas Eve by the non-stop traffic outside Tamales Lilianas on Cesar Chavez Avenue.

Tamales Lilianas, famous for its Mexican food and especially its tamales, has seen a steady flow of people walking out in, then out its doors with two to five dozen tamales in bags or carrying a box for those with six to 10 dozen.

One man who identified himself as Edgar waited outside in his SUV as other family members picked up his family's order, KNX 1070's Pete Demetriou reports.

"We go with the rajas, which are cheese and jalapeno or green pepper slices, or the red pork," Edgar said.

Customers came in every type of vehicle, from pickup trucks to high-end BMWs and Mercedes, from all over Southern California, as far as Orange County.

The rush at Tamales Lilianas is not expected to end until at least 9 p.m. Christmas Eve.
