Southern California Woman Gets 3 Speeding Tickets Within An Hour

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com/AP) — A California woman was arrested after getting three speeding tickets within an hour while driving in Pulaski County, Virginia.

Police there say Kai Kitchen of Los Angeles was taken into custody Sunday and issued an arrest warrant for misdemeanor reckless driving.

Police say Trooper N.S. Rife first spotted Kitchen traveling 93 mph — 23 mph above the speed limit — around 7 a.m. on Interstate 81.

She was cited for reckless driving and released.

Kitchen was cited a second time for reckless driving about 40 minutes later when Rife saw her speeding again. This time, police say she was going 97 mph.

Then, at 8 a.m., Trooper M.R. Overholt caught Kitchen going 94 mph on I-81.

Kitchen's supporters allege that she was only stopped because she's black, but her lawyer calls that nonsense.

"This doesn't have anything to do with the color of anyone's skin," said Jimmy Turk, Kitchen's lawyer. "She was driving in excess of the speed limit on three different occasions in one hour."

Kitchen was slated to be released from jail Thursday. She served four days in jail and was hit with a 1,000 fine.
