Southern California Mother Found Sane In Killing Of 3 Daughters

COMPTON (AP) — A judge has ruled that a Southern California woman was sane when she slit the throats of her three daughters and left their bodies on her bed.

The decision Thursday comes 10 days after the same judge found the mother, Carol Ann Coronado, guilty of first-degree murder in a bench trial with no jury.

Coronado could have been sent to a state mental hospital if it is determined that she was insane at the time of last year's killings.

Instead she could now be sentenced to life in prison with no possibility of parole when she's sentenced next month.

Prosecutors said Coronado killed her 2-month-old daughter, Xenia; her 16-month-old daughter, Yazmine; and 2-year-old Sophia by cutting their throats and then stabbing them in the heart.
