Diesel Spill Closes Lanes On Southbound I-5 In Newhall Area

NEWHALL (CBSLA.com) — All southbound lanes of the 5 Freeway in Newhall were closed Friday night after diesel fuel spilled from a big-rig.

The spill was reported at 8:41 p.m. and a SigAlert was issued at 9:03 p.m., the California Highway Patrol said.

Traffic was being diverted at Lyons Avenue. By 9:30 p.m., traffic in the southbound lanes were backed up as far as Magic Mountain.

Two lanes were reopened about 10:30 p.m. while cleanup efforts continued.
