South Whittier Slaying Victim Identified

WHITTIER (CBSLA.com) — The identification of a 31-year-old Los Angeles woman stabbed to death Friday night has been released by the Los Angeles County coroner's office.

Coroner's Lt. R. Hays identified the victim of the stabbing in an unincorporated area south of Whittier as Michelle Alexis Young.

The attack took place about 10:30 p.m. Friday in the 11500 block of Obert Avenue, near the La Mirada border, said Deputy Trina Schrader of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. According to a witness, Schrader said, Young was stabbed several times by a woman who had approached her and started an argument that turned into a fight. Young was pronounced dead at the scene.

Vanessa Rebecca Cella, 28, was detained by Norwalk-based deputies shortly after the attack, Schrader said. Cella was arrested on suspicion of murder, according to Deputy Jeffrey A. Gordon of the Sheriff's Department's headquarters division, and was held on $1 million bail at the Century Regional Detention Facility.
