South Gate Police Officer, Wife Dead In Possible Murder-Suicide

LONG BEACH (CBSLA.com/AP) — A rookie police officer and his wife are dead after they were found at their Long Beach home in what authorities are calling a possible murder-suicide.

A report of possible domestic violence sent Long Beach officers to the condominium shortly before 10 p.m. Monday.

They found 25-year-old Kyle Kurian and his 22-year-old wife, Greta. Both had been shot in the chest, and she was found dead at the scene. Kurian died at a hospital Tuesday morning.

The coroner's office will determine the couple's official cause of death, but detectives are investigating the deaths as a possible murder-suicide.

Officers say the couple's two daughters — a baby and a toddler — were unharmed. They were taken into protective custody.

Kurian had just started working as a police officer in nearby South Gate this month, South Gate Police Department officials said. He previously worked for the Los Angeles Police Department.

Anyone with information about the shooting can call Homicide Detectives Sean Irving and Oscar Valenzuela at (562) 570-7244.
