South Bay Basketball Coach Suspected Of Raping Female Player

HERMOSA BEACH (CBSLA.com) — A 32-year-old basketball coach who has worked at several South Bay schools was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of raping one of his female players.

Timothy Lucas of Cypress was taken into custody at Manhattan Beach Middle School and is being held on $200,000 bail, Hermosa Beach police Sgt. Robert Higgins said.

The alleged rape happened at the coach's residence in Hermosa Beach about 18 months ago, according to Higgins, who said details of the crime and the victim's name were being withheld because she is a juvenile.

Lucas has previously worked at Mira Costa High, Redondo Beach Union High, Torrance West High, Manhattan Beach Middle School and Bishop Montgomery High.

Anyone with information about Lucas or who believes they are also a victim can contact Detective Dean Garkow at (310) 318-0348 or Detective Jonathan Cruz at (310) 318-0332.
