Homicide investigation underway after OC judge arrested

Homicide detectives have arrested Orange County Superior Court Jeffrey Ferguson, 72, on suspicion of murder in the fatal shooting of his wife in Anaheim Hills.

According to the Anaheim Police Department, officers were called around 8 p.m. for a reported shooting. When police arrived at the 8500 block of Canyon Vista Drive they found the judge's wife, Sheryl Ferguson, age 65, with at least one gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said Ferguson was arrested and booked into the Anaheim Police Department's Detention Facility and was being held on a $1 million bail. 

He posted it on Friday and was released from jail.

Detectives have not released any additional details because the investigation is ongoing.

Law enforcement sources told the Los Angeles Times that a son of the judge and his wife were at the home during the shooting.

According to The Times, Ferguson has served as a judge in Orange County Superior Court since 2015. He previously spent more than three decades with the Orange County district attorney's office, during which time he worked as part of the Major Narcotics Enforcement Team. He served as president of the North Orange County Bar Association from 2012 to 2014
