Soulja Boy Arrested On Concealed Weapons Charge

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles police say they have arrested rapper Soulja Boy on suspicion of carrying a concealed weapon when he and another man were stopped for a traffic violation.

Police spokesman Richard French says the 23-year-old rapper, whose real name is DeAndre Cortez Way, was a passenger in the vehicle when it was pulled around 4 a.m. in the Granada Hills neighborhood.

French said he did not have any information on the type of firearm that officers found.

Way was booked and released on $35,000 and ordered to appear in court on Feb. 20. His arrest was first reported by the celebrity website TMZ.

Jail records did not list an attorney for the rapper, whose song "Crank Dat (Soulja Boy)" was nominated for a Grammy Award for best rap song in 2008.
