Sore Throat Silences Vin Scully On Dodgers' Broadcast
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Hall of Fame broadcaster Vin Scully missed the Los Angeles Dodgers game Tuesday night because of a sore throat.
The team says the 88-year-old was resting at home. Scully is planning to retire at season's end after a record 67 years calling games with the same franchise.
Scully always works alone, but he needed two replacements for the game against the Washington Nationals. Charley Steiner and former Dodgers pitching great Orel Hershiser shared the TV booth. Rick Monday and Kevin Kennedy handled the radio call.
Last fall, Scully missed the playoffs because of an unspecified medical procedure.
Scully currently calls all nine innings of home games and road games in California and Arizona for the Dodgers' television home on SportsNet LA, while the first three innings of his games are simulcast on the radio.
