Some Voice Privacy Concerns As 'Hello Barbie' Hits Store Shelves

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — An innovative toy is hitting store shelves, but "Hello Barbie" is raising privacy concerns by some.

The high-tech doll made by Mattel uses a Wi-Fi connection to carry on a dialogue with the child.

Everything said is stored on a server, which has some raising concerns about hackers being able to take control of the doll.

"If the hacker or some devious character wants to get into your home network, he can probably figure out a way through Barbie because she doesn't quite have the security controls as other gadgets in your house," Kim Komando, a digital watchdog, told KNX 1070 NEWSRADIO.

But Mattel, which is based in El Segundo, says it's addressed the security concerns and is even enlisting hackers to find the security flaws so it can fix them.

"Hello Barbie" retails for $74.99.
