Storm System Ravages Las Vegas With 'Life-Threatening' Flooding

STUDIO CITY (CBSLA.com) — A Southern California storm system is leaving its mark on Las Vegas.

Heavy rains, remnants of Hurricane Norbert, triggered a flash-flood emergency in and around parts of the city, even wiping away entire sections of I-15.

The Nevada Highway Patrol was forced to close multiple stretches of the freeway in what the National Weather Service called "life-threatening flooding."

"A lot of vehicles [were] stuck. Fire conducted several rescues to get people out of their vehicles," a NHP spokeswoman said.

On the Strip, tops of cars barely poked out of the water. In neighborhoods, residents could only watch as the rising waters spilled into their yards and homes.

KCAL9's Elsa Ramon reports U.S. Route 95 has been reopened near the California border.

A 40-mile stretch of I-15 north of Las Vegas is expected to be closed for three to four days.
