SoCal Gas Prices Sink Below $3 Mark
DOWNEY (CBSLA.com) — Southern California gas prices sunk below $3 a gallon Thursday, the lowest since February 2011.
Many drivers stopped to fill up at an ARCO gas station in Downey where a gallon of regular unleaded was $2.99.
"I don't remember the last time it was under $3," said Anthony Castellanos. "I'm stopping. It's worth me being maybe 10 minutes late."
Across the Southland, gas is about 30 cents higher than the national average, however, it is well below the $4 mark.
A gallon of regular self-serve gasoline costs on average $3.38 in Los Angeles County, $3.35 in Orange and Ventura counties and $3.33 in the Inland Empire, according to AAA.
Prices are dropping nationwide due to increased shale production and global output is ahead of demand, AAA's Daily Fuel Gage Report said.
Experts predict that prices will continue to fall through 2015.
