Small plane crashes outside Compton Airport

Plane crashes in neighborhood, pilot suffers minor injuries

Crews responded to a small plane crash near the Compton/Woodley Airport Wednesday morning.

The plane crashed outside the airport near Tragniew Park on W. 159th Street around 8 a.m. The Federal Aviation Administration said the plane lost engine power during takeoff. The pilot of the single-engine Cessna suffered minor injuries. No one else was in the aircraft during the crash.

Los Angeles County Aviation Commissioner Dennis Lord said the pilot had experience flying for airlines.

Two planes, including this most recent one, have recently crashed outside the Compton/Woodley Airport. After a mechanical malfunction, another plane smashed into a fence near the local airport earlier this month.

The latest plane crashed in front of Debra Lindsey's doorstep.

"I was born and raised in this house," said Lindsey. "We should not have to go through this, me and my neighbors."

L.A. County public works crews rolled the plane off the street later in the day.
