Small Plane Makes Emergency Landing In Irvine Park

IRVINE (AP) — A small plane that had engine trouble has landed safely in an Orange County park that used to be a Marine air base.

The Orange County Fire Authority says a Cessna carrying two men was heading from Long Beach to Palomar Airport in Carlsbad when the pilot reported engine trouble Thursday afternoon.

The pilot set the plane down at the Great Park on a runway that used to be part of the Marine Corps Air Station El Toro. The base was decommissioned in 1999.

Authorities say the men were dehydrated and were given water but otherwise were unharmed.
