Small Earthquake Hits Willowbrook, Rattles South LA, Bay Areas
WILLOWBROOK (CBSLA) — A small earthquake that struck near Willowbrook was felt by many in south Los Angeles and the South Bay.
The magnitude-3.5 earthquake struck less than a mile east of Willowbrook, about 5 miles east-southeast of Compton, at about 8:32 a.m., according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
Earthquake expert Dr. Lucy Jones weighed in on Wednesday morning's quake, saying it occurred near, but not on, the Newport-Inglewood fault.
The M3.5 new Willowbrook is near but not on the Newport-Inglewood fault. The focal mechanism (which maps the direction of motion at all the seismic stations) shows us the ground moved up and down. The NI fault moves sideways. https://t.co/4122mPHNJ7
