Small Brush Fire Burns Close To Homes In Thousand Oaks

THOUSAND OAKS (CBSLA.com) -- A small brush fire started on the side of a freeway threatening a residential neighborhood in Thousand Oaks Tuesday afternoon.

Flames broke in a tree out on the shoulder of the northbound 23 Freeway near the Sunset Hills Boulevard exit around 2:30 p.m., according to the Capt. Mike Lindbery of the Ventura County Fire Department.

The fire was burning close to some homes.

Eighty firefighters and a helicopter were deployed to the scene. It took them about 45 minutes to knock down the fire that scorched  about one and a half acres.

One house sustained minor damage., according to Lindbery.

It is not known yet what sparked the fire.
