Slumping Sales Lead To Closure Of Macy's Store In Irvine

IRVINE (CBSLA.com)  —  A Macy's store in Irvine will close, the company said Wednesday.

The closure at the Irvine Spectrum location is blamed on slumping sales.

A Macy's store in the Westfield Century City mall is also slated to be closed this month, but it will be replaced with a new, larger store in the same mall in the spring of 2017, company officials said.

The 140,000-square-foot Irvine store, which opened in 2002, will hold clearance sales for the next eight to 12 weeks. Macy's said 112 workers will be affected by the closing.

The company announced it is closing 36 of 770 stores across the country. Four others were closed in the final months of last year as part of a plan to save about $400 million in operating costs.
