3 In Custody, 3 Victims Safe After Hostage Situation In Boyle Heights

BOYLE HEIGHTS (CBSLA.com) — Three reported gang members were arrested and three victims are safe following a hostage situation in Boyle Heights Saturday evening.

SWAT members were called to an apartment complex in the 2400 block of Folsom Street, where the suspects were holding a grandmother, a mother and a young child hostage inside, the LAPD reported.

The incident was first reported around 6:30 p.m. when the victims told police that at least one suspect was at the location with a long rifle firearm.

When officers arrived they saw three men run into the complex.

The SWAT team tried to get the suspects to surrender for several hours but eventually decided to break into the complex through a window. They approached the barricaded unit and threw a flash-bang grenade to subdue the suspects without a single shot fired.

The suspects were taken into custody at around 9:20 p.m.

The possible relationship between the suspects and the victims is under investigation.
