Woman Arrested On Suspicion Of Fatally Shooting Boyfriend In Simi Valley

SIMI VALLEY (CBSLA.com) — A 75-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of fatally shooting her boyfriend in Simi Valley, police said Monday.

According to the Simi Valley Police Department, Mary Karacas was booked on suspicion of murder after she told officers she shot and killed Salvatore Orefice, 84, in her bedroom.

A preliminary investigation revealed the shooting took place around 4:15 p.m. Sunday in the 6200 block of Anastasia Ave during an altercation between Karacas and Orefice.

Upon their arrival, officers located a partially covered deceased man inside the home.

Authorities determined the circumstances were suspicious, and homicide detectives were called to the scene.

The coroner's office later identified Orefice as the shooting victim.

Police said this incident marks the first homicide for the city this year.

The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
