Anaheim City Council Bans Short-Term Vacation Rentals

ANAHEIM (CBSLA.com) — By the end of summer, millions of visitors who travel to Anaheim will not have the option of staying in short-term vacation rentals.

City Council members voted late Wednesday night to ban travelers from using websites such as Airbnb and VBRO to book a stay within the homes, apartments and rooms of Anaheim residents.

Nearly 200 people attended the meeting, which was filled with mixed opinions.

According to opponents, short-term rentals have eliminated much-needed housing, and have created problems including excessive noise and lack of parking.

Meanwhile, proponents say the rentals generate millions of dollars for the city, create new jobs and provide affordable options for guests.

Other cities including Hermosa Beach and Ojai have also decided to ban short-term rentals.

The ban is expected to take effect in mid-August.
