Murder Suspect Killed By SWAT Team In San Bernardino

SAN BERNARDINO (CBSLA) — The suspect wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of fugitive recovery agent James Black was killed Thursday in a deputy-involved shooting at a San Bernardino hotel.

The San Bernardino Police Department received a call at 11:22 a.m. that shots had been fired near the Days Inn hotel on the 1900 block of S. Business Center Drive.

Police Sargent John Echevarria confirmed in an afternoon press conference Thursday that a man who was fatally shot during the shooting was 41-year-old Chad James Green of Riverside, the man wanted in connection with Black's death.

Green was said to have exited the hotel room and walk towards the deputies. The deputies then told the him to stop and raise his hands, at which point Green took off running, Echevarria said.

The deputies believed that Green was armed, and the shooting occurred.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

When deputies searched Green, two firearms were recovered. A woman was also found inside of the hotel room Green had exited and she was taken into custody for questioning, Echevarria said.

Black was killed at a Moreno Valley hotel Tuesday night and an active search was underway for Green.

Deputies with the Riverside County Sheriff's Department arrived at the hotel located on the 24000 block of Sunnymead Boulevard near the intersection of Heacock Street after receiving a call reporting an assault with a deadly weapon around 7:13 p.m.

Arriving deputies discovered 42-year-old Black of Lake Elsinore who was suffering from a gunshot wound and rendered medical aid until paramedics arrived.

He was rushed to a local hospital where he died, sheriff's officials said.

Green was being sought following the shooting and was considered as armed and dangerous.

He was described as a well respected and highly decorated Marine Corps veteran, husband, and father to five.

Black's family was at the Days Inn Thursday evening to thank law enforcement for acting quickly and finding Green.

"I would say it was a bit of a relief, but at the same time it doesn't bring my husband back to us," said Black's wife Michelle. "Just incredibly thankful to the law enforcement community."

His wife said Black's main goal in life was to provide for his family. A GoFundMe account was made to support Black's family.
