Shooting Reported In South LA, Police On Tactical Alert

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com)   —  A shooting during a party in South LA has the LAPD on tactical alert Sunday evening,  authorities said.

The shooting happened at 99th Street and Century, near Figueroa.

There was an unconfirmed report of an officer needing help in that area prompting reports  of an officer-involved shooting.

Desmond Shaw, flying overhead in Sky2, saw a large police presence with "a ton of people with their hands behind their backs" lined up at a fence.

When officers arrived on scene -- and it was unclear if they happened on the situation or were responding to a noise complaint -- they heard gunfire.

LA City Fire also responded to the area due to what was described as a medical emergency.

Shaw reported that someone was shot in the arm, apparently during the party. That person was transported to the hospital.

The large presence of police was called to try to find a suspect, Shaw reported.

He also reported that "weapons were recovered at the scene."
