Shooting Death Investigation Underway In Oxnard

OXNARD (CBSLA.com) — Police were on the scene of a shooting Sunday that killed a 22-year-old man and injured another man.

According to the Oxnard Police Department, officers were sent around 9:07 a.m. Saturday to a shooting call in the 100 block of Eliza Court.

When officers arrived, they located two shooting victims at the scene.

One victim was transported to the Ventura County Medical Center, where he remains listed in serious, but stable condition, officials said.

The second suspect, described as a Hispanic man, was pronounced dead at the scene. Hi identity is being withheld pending family notification.

Police explained it appears that he succumbed to a gunshot wound.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the two victims were with two other people, when they were approached by two Hispanic men that opened fire on the group.

Witnesses told police multiple gunshots were heard while suspects ran westbound towards Dolores Court.

Officers added the motive of the shooting is unknown at this time, however, it is believed to be a gang related incident.

Authorities said they are working to determine if this incident was related to an earlier shooting that occurred in the 700 block of Berkshire.

According to police, this incident marks the third homicide that of the year.
