Shooting Death Investigation Underway In Compton

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of a man in Compton on Friday.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, deputies were sent just after 9:00 a.m. to the area of East Elm Street and North Poinsettia Avenue.

The victim, an adult Hispanic man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A preliminary investigation revealed the victim was crossing Poinsettia Avenue Eastbound on Elm Street when the suspect vehicle approached the area traveling Southbound on Poinsettia Avenue.

The victim reportedly walked halfway across the street, and the suspect vehicle came to a stop.

Officers said the right front passenger proceeded to exit the vehicle and fired a gun at the victim, which fatally struck him multiple times in the upper torso.

The suspect vehicle then drove off Southbound on Poinsettia Avenue and out of view.

Detectives did not provide a description of the suspect or vehicle.

The motive for the shooting remains unknown.
