Shipping Container Crushes Bicyclist In Carson

CARSON (CBSLA.com) — A bicyclist is dead after being crushed by a shipping container in Carson, according to authorities.

The accident was reported at 5:05 p.m. when the container was being hauled by a big rig near the intersection of Santa Fe Avenue and Wardnock Way.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said the semi may have struck an overcrossing, causing the container to come loose and fall on the victim as he was riding his bike.

"The container struck a bridge and got knocked off the trailer," said Melanie Flores, supervising dispatcher with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

The victim's name has not been released.
