'Shield' Actor Michael Jace Won't Take Stand In Murder Trial

LOS ANGELES (AP) — An actor who played a police officer on television says he will not testify in his own defense in a murder case filed after he fatally shot his wife two years ago.

Michael Jace told a judge Thursday that he would not take the stand.

Prosecutors are seeking a first-degree murder conviction against Jace, who has acknowledged shooting his wife of nine years in their Los Angeles home. Prosecutors have ended their case.

Jace's lawyers contend the actor did not plan to kill his wife and shot her in the heat of passion after she told him she wanted a divorce.

The 53-year-old Jace played a police officer on the TV series "The Shield" and appeared in several films.
