Gas Leak Shuts Down Millikan Middle School; Campus To Reopen Friday
SHERMAN OAKS (CBSLA) — Millikan Middle School and its magnets were closed Thursday after crews detected a gas leak near the front of the campus.
SoCal Gas and Los Angeles Unified School District crews detected the leak Wednesday night near the front of the school, 5041 Sunnyslope Ave. in Sherman Oaks. Gas service has been shut off to the school while repairs are being made, the district said.
"Out of an abundance of caution, the school is closed today," a tweet said. The school closure affects 1,730 students.

The gas leak was detected by the principal Wednesday night, who was still on the campus for a PTA meeting. After detecting the odor of gas, she notified district workers, who called SoCal Gas.

LAUSD officials confirmed Thursday afternoon the leak had been fixed and the school would reopen Friday.
