COMPTON (CBSLA.com) — Sheriffs deputies in Compton on Friday took a hit-and-run suspect into custody after a brief chase.

The driver hit a pedestrian at Alondra and Holly, near Thompson, authorities said, and then fled.

The accident occurred around 8:30 p.m., officials said.

The motorist in a gray Honda Prelude reportedly hit someone pushing a cart, possibly a homeless person.

Stu Mundel, reporting in Sky9, said the driver sped off.

A brief chase ended at Bradfield and Compton Boulevard when the driver tried to flee on foot, Mundel reported.

The driver and a passenger have been taken into custody.

The pedestrian was transported to a hospital in unknown condition.
