Sheriff's deputy crashes patrol vehicle in Stevenson Ranch, arrested on suspicion of DUI

LASD deputy arrested on suspicion of DUI after crashing patrol car in Stevenson Ranch

On Friday evening, a Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputy in a marked patrol vehicle was involved in a crash near the intersection of Pico Canyon Road and Southern Oaks Drive in Stevenson Ranch.

The deputy, who has not been identified, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence, according to LA County Sheriffs Deputy Parra.

"We are aware of the deputy who was involved in a solo vehicle traffic collision last night on Pico Canyon Road / Southern Oaks Drive in Stevenson's Ranch. The deputy was located and was arrested for suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol.  He was later transported to Henry Mayo Hospital for evaluation, and it was determined he did not sustain any significant injuries from the solo-vehicle traffic accident.  The deputy has been relieved of duty and due to the active investigation, we are unable to comment further," Dep. Parra said in a statement to CBSLA.

A pedestrian in the area who saw the crash called authorities to report it. 

The deputy was reportedly missing for a time, after the crash. Responding sheriff's deputies set up a command post and searched the area, including nearby hospitals. They later located the deputy in question at his personal residence. 

LA County Fire responded to the crash scene, but moves to the deputy's residence where he was loaded into an ambulance and transported to the hospital in unknown condition. 

The deputy who crashed the patrol vehicle, a black Chevy Tahoe, belongs to a specialized unit within the sheriff's department. 

On Saturday afternoon, Sheriff Alex Villanueva tweeted about the incident, writing:

"I have been notified of the incident involving a @LASDHQ employee. I am taking this incident seriously and will ensure this matter is properly investigated. Until the investigation is completed, I cannot comment on what the outcome will be."
