Sheriff: Female Runs Onto Train Tracks, Hit By Train, Killed
ENCINITAS (AP) — California authorities say a pedestrian who ran onto train tracks in Encinitas was struck by a train and killed.
The San Diego Sheriff's Department says the Amtrak train was heading north about 7:40 p.m. Saturday when the engineer saw a female run toward the tracks.
The department says she ran onto the tracks and was hit by the train, which was going about 84 mph. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities did not immediately identify the female or provide her age.
