Shark Sighting Leads To Beach Closure In Orange County

NEWPORT BEACH (CBSLA.com) — A shark sighting has led to a beach closure in the Newport Beach area.

The incident unfolded about 4:10 p.m. Thursday after Orange County lifeguards were notified of the shark sighting off Huntington State Beach by a lifeguard patrol boat.

The incident prompted authorities to close a section of the beach between Huntington State Beach and Newport Beach.

Newport Beach lifeguards said late Thursday that they didn't plan on reopening the beach until Friday morning.

Authorities said lifeguard towers 76-54 would be affected by the closure through Friday.

Red flags have been placed along the shoreline.

No further information was immediately available.
