Severe Thunderstorm, Flood Warnings Issued For Inland Areas
LA QUINTA (CBSLA.com) — Flash flood and severe thunderstorm warnings were issued Tuesday for several Inland Empire communities and Orange County.
Several streets were flooded in Wildomar and Lake Elsinore on Tuesday afternoon as a thunderstorm moved its way toward Orange County.
At Elsinore High School in Wildomar, batting cages were blown over, and officials are concerned that water had seeped under the gym.
"What happens is, when it really rains like it just did, that water comes down off the hills, and the drainage pipe along the west side of our school can't hold the water so it comes into the school and floods the area where we have our gym. The big scary thing for us, will the gym floor get flooded?" Principal Jon Hurst said.
The National Weather Service issued flash-flood warnings for West Central Riverside County and East Central Orange County through 6:30 p.m.
Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms 15 miles southeast of Silverado Canyon or 10 miles east of Mission Viejo that could have produced flash flooding, according to the National Weather Service.
Residents and motorists in the Silverado Canyon, Santiago Peak, Trabuco Highlands, Portola Hills and Coto de Caza areas were asked to prepare for flash flooding, and in burn areas, heavy mud and debris flows.
No flooding issues or mudslides were reported in those areas.
